Incumbent President Kenyatta Declared Winner of Kenya Election

Kenya's electoral commission announced on Friday that Uhuru Kenyatta has been re-elected, putting an official close to the hotly contested results that many fear could still escalate into a dispute with accompanying violence, according to The Washington Post.

The opposition candidate, Raila Odinga, has alleged that the results of Tuesday's elections were rigged and said he would not accept them until he was declared the winner, which has escalated tensions as his followers have been protesting by burning tires in some of Nairobi's slums and protesting in the western city of Kisumu.

Odinga's campaign said on Friday that there may be a possible way out of the dispute with officials saying they would possibly accept the results if they were able to inspect the electoral commission's computer servers, but some of his fierce supporters have vowed to take to the streets if Kenyatta was declared the winner.
